On the border between folk and world music
A Köztársaság Bandája
“The band’s aim is to give Hungarian folk music a modern sound and an exciting interpretation using acoustic folk instruments. We do arrangements of until now lesser known folk tunes and place them in a new environment. Our sound is characterized by the virtuoso, overwhelming force of Máté and Gergő’s violin playing and Veronika’s unique voice.”
The members of the band are folk musicians, dance house musicians. Our music is…youthful, dynamic, contemporary. True world music. The band was formed in the fall of 2010. We all started playing music in elementary school; most of us play more than one instrument.
Szabó Enikő and band
Hungarian music life today is amazingly interesting and colorful with a cavalcade of styles, genres and performers.
One of the most exciting performers and song-writers on the brilliant spectrum is Szabó Enikő (with her band).
This is Szabó Enikő’s first recording. An excellent singer with a unique voice, she has performed with various formations led by Ökrös Csaba, with Tabulatúra, with Balázs Elemér and other bands. This is completely new material and a new sound; she just may have created a new style. Both the music and the lyrics are by Szabó Enikő.
Jazz, folk, underground and world music motifs can be found in the songs.
“Szoknyák a porban” [Skirts in the dust] is a TOM-TOM label release.
