Opening event of Budapest Folk Fest - music and dances of Vajdaszentivány/Voivodeni (Transylvania)
The traditional Transylvanian turning couple dances (in Hungarian: forgatos) developed to their peak thanks to the history of the Székely and Mezőség regions. The turning couple dance of the Marosszék region could be a symbol for the Székely people: a beautiful manifestation of their artful thinking, cheerfulness and dignity. The village of Vajdaszentivány is a rich source of our folk culture.
We start Budapest Folk Fest with dance instruction in seperate groups for beginners and advanced dancers, then a Gala Program presenting the traditional folk master dancers and musicians from Vajdaszentivány/ Voivodeni, followed by a dance house.
