Nadara is the best Transylvanian Gypsy band of the hour. They draw from the multi-ethnic region’s
Hungarian, Romanian, Saxon traditions, and from Spanish and Balkan Roma tradition. You won’t
want to miss the fiery, compelling atmosphere of their concerts.
10 PM Mahala Rai Banda (RO)
Mahala Rai Banda: “Fast and furious dance floor work-outs with a rock-solid up tempo groove, frenetic horn riffs and punchy Roma scat singing.” (Songlines)
This Romanian band from a village outside of Bucharest has become world famous. The band members met in Mahala, Bucharest’s Roma ghetto. They have since travelled the world. Shantel, Nouvelle Vague and Basement Jaxx have performed arrangements of their tunes. The music for Sacha Baron Cohen’s 2006 film “BORAT” is linked to them.
