Párniczky Quartet album launch

Summary of the Párniczky Quartet's New Repertoire, reflecting on 22 years of work by the Nigun ensemble and the creative process of the album "Bartók electrified" (BMC, CD 260, 2018) and the subsequent period. János Gonda's formulation of the independent European jazz style accurately describes the quartet's goals and expression: "[…] the sovereign European improvisational musical language that integrates elements of modern chamber jazz, contemporary, and folk music" (Gonda: Jazzvilág, 2004). The introduction of the new lineup took place on January 13, 2023, at the Hungarian Music House. Members Bede Péter (tarogato, alto saxophone) and Ajtai Péter (double bass) have been the band leader's companions in over 300 concerts, both in European and overseas performances. They were joined by drummer Szabó Sipos Ágoston, who played folk violin before his jazz studies at the Academy of Music and the Academy of Music. K. Lipinski. The formation's latest – overall Párniczky's seventh – album will be released later this year, under the supervision of Fonó Budai Zeneház.

Párniczky András, the quartet's leader, received a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in 1999, and later that same year, he won the Hungarian State Eötvös Scholarship. In 2000, he was a finalist in the Attila Zoller International Jazz Competition (Pat Metheny was the honorary chairman of the jury). In 2014, he achieved 2nd place on the JazzMa critics' list in the jazz guitar category, and from that year, he became an official artist for American Collings Guitars and Mandolins. He earned his doctoral degree at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music Doctoral School with a summa cum laude designation in 2022. His dissertation, titled "Only from Pure Sources: The Continuing Legacy of Béla Bartók's Music in Jazz," will be published in book form in late autumn 2023.
