FONÓ30 Jubilee: Composer’s Night with Lakatos Róbert and Paár Julcsi
It has been thirty years since Fonó Budai Music Hall first opened its doors. Over the decades, Fonó has become one of the most important venues for Hungarian and international folk, world, and jazz music – a space where tradition and contemporary thinking are deeply intertwined. The FONÓ30 jubilee series captures the essence of these three decades, featuring returning masters, iconic performers, and intergenerational dialogue.
An evening where two versatile creators and two distinct musical worlds meet on one stage.
Lakatos Róbert
Fonogram and Harmónia Award-winning violist from southern Slovakia, artistic director of Rév, Rendhagyó Prímástalálkozó and Esszencia. He has performed with numerous ensembles in Hungary and abroad and has created a significant body of work as a composer. His musical language has taken shape in chamber music, dance theatre, and solo albums – this time, with the collaboration of Esszencia and violinist Jozef Horváth, he offers a glimpse into his multifaceted oeuvre on the Fonó stage.
Paár Julcsi
Fonogram Award-winning singer, songwriter, and music therapist. As a multifaceted artist, she has been a key figure in several well-known folk and world music ensembles over the past two decades. Her name is associated with many internationally acclaimed albums, and she also works actively as a music therapist, based on her own method as the founder of Hangoló Zeneterápia.
For this FONÓ30 jubilee evening, she revisits important milestones in her career: songs written with Uljana Quartet, reimagined pieces from her children’s albums, and musical excerpts from her recent theatre work. The performance is both a personal reflection and an experimental present-moment exploration, moving across the realms of folk music, theatre, and self-awareness through art.
Julcsi’s work is characterised by deep internal attention and a visceral–emotional connection to musical layers. Her songs create a unique world not only through sound, but also through concept and interpretation.
