FONÓ30 Jubilee – Fonó Wednesday: Romanian Dances from Magyarpalatka
It has been thirty years since Fonó Budai Music Hall first opened its doors. Over the decades, Fonó has become one of the most important venues for Hungarian and international folk, world, and jazz music – a space where tradition and contemporary thinking are deeply intertwined. The FONÓ30 jubilee series captures the essence of these three decades, featuring returning masters, iconic performers, and intergenerational dialogue.
From the heart of the Mezőség region – Botháza, Mezőgyéres, Mezőszáva – participants will learn one of the slowest-paced dances, the "De a Lungu", a walking-turning couple's dance preserving Renaissance-era forms to this day. The dance cycle also includes the medium-paced "batuta" and the fast, syncopated "Sarita". Among the men’s dances, you'll have the chance to learn the "romaneste in bota" and the "tirnaveana".
The renowned Magyarpalatka band will provide live music throughout this seven-session dance workshop series, culminating in a special gala event with guest performers from Transylvania.
Dance instructors: Norbert Busai and Zsuzsanna Busai
Tickets: 2300 HUF in advance, 2900 HUF on the day of the event
