Fonó Session: Irish Session

“Grab your instrument and join in!”

The Fonó Session series offers free, informal community music-making on weekday evenings. Beginners and advanced musicians alike, as well as music lovers and curious listeners, are welcome to join, with or without an instrument.

Every two weeks, the focus is on an Irish session, featuring jigs, reels, and other traditional Irish dance tunes. Following Irish session traditions, anyone is free to join the shared music-making. Typical instruments include flute, fiddle, accordion, concertina, guitar, bouzouki, banjo, and bodhrán.

The first part of the evening is a “slow session,” a chance to learn: practicing at a gentler pace, working through tricky passages, and expanding your repertoire.

Bring your instrument and jump in when a familiar tune comes around. Always listen to the others, you can find the international etiquette of Irish sessions here.
