Fonó Session: Padkaporos Folk Jam

“Grab your instrument and join in!”

The Fonó Session series offers relaxed, community music-making for everyone. Beginners and advanced musicians alike, as well as music lovers and curious listeners are welcome to join, with or without an instrument.

Once a month the Magyar Tekerőzenekar runs an informal, open workshop, where drone instruments take center stage.

Host: Pál Havasréti

Founded by Pál Havasréti, Ágoston Bartha, and Béla Szerényi, the ensemble remains a true folk music workshop for hurdy-gurdy players from all over the country, traditionally joined by wind instrument players and singers. The members of the group work to ensure that the thousand-year-old tradition of the hurdy-gurdy does not fade away in Hungary, and becomes even more popular. Alongside traditional rural music from the Southern Great Plain, their concerts also feature the band’s own arrangements, historical songs, sacred folk hymns, and hurdy-gurdy tunes from across Europe.
