“From Song to Story, From Story to Community” – A Conversation with Éva Fábián & International Storytelling Day with the Meseszó Association
The Meseszó Association warmly invites all story listeners and storytellers to a full evening program celebrating International Storytelling Day. At the heart of the event are personal stories, traditional oral storytelling, and the simple magic of being together.
This year marks a special milestone:
For the tenth time, we join the international storytelling movement, and for ten years we have been organizing Hungary’s Storytelling Day gathering.
Special Guest
Our guest of the evening is Éva Fábián (Évike), Prima Primissima and Liszt Ferenc Prize-winning folk singer, storyteller, performer, and teacher. She has guided generations of the dance house movement toward singing and love of traditional culture. Her life and work embody how songs and stories become living community patterns, how a story turns into a community, and a community into a sustaining force.
TIMELINE
17:00-19:00
“From Song to Story, From Story to Community” - Conversation with Éva Fábián
Conversation and interview - Main Hall
An intimate discussion on storytelling, transmitting tradition, and the many forms of stage and community presence. We will explore how song, tale, and the art of addressing an audience intertwine; what it means today to pass on stories through living voice; and how tradition can remain alive while constantly evolving. A distinguished representative of the bukovina székely oral tradition is going to share her reflections.
This conversation offers insight into Éva Fábián’s rich life journey and the philosophy in which a story does not merely sound out, but creates connection.
19:30-21:00
Storytelling Circle in the Barn
Have you ever been part of a storytelling circle?
We will gather in a circle and tell stories to each other, just as communities once did. It is an open programme: everybody is welcome to join, even just as listeners.
Our aim is for stories to be reborn in the here and now through shared attention and presence.
Practical Information
- Dress warmly in layers or bring a blanket.
- Most stories are traditional folktales collected from Hungarian-speaking regions, told orally, but on International Storytelling Day we also welcome tales from other cultures.
