Lisztes Jenő Cimbalom Project
Cimbalom virtuoso Jenő Lisztes was born in Budapest in 1986, as the grandson of a renowned cimbalom player. He began studying classical cimbalom at the age of four under Ágnes Szakály, and later continued his studies with Jenő Sörös, learning both classical and Gypsy music styles. At just twelve years old, he won the Aladár Rácz Cimbalom Competition. He earned his degree in classical cimbalom performance from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 2010.
From the very beginning, his musical interests have been remarkably broad. Alongside his involvement in numerous classical and Gypsy music projects, he is also deeply at home in the world of jazz, where he gained wider recognition as a member of Roby Lakatos’s band. In 2015, together with two childhood friends, drummer Dániel Serei and double bassist Vilmos Schildkraut, he founded his own trio under the name Lisztes Jenő Cimbalom Project. The formation follows the model of the classic jazz piano trio, but with the cimbalom taking over the role of the piano. As a lead instrument, it lends the music a distinctly unique character through its sound and specialized playing techniques, whether performing jazz standards or original compositions.
