Moldavian dance house of Berka Együttes

For nearly 15 years, the Berka Együttes has been hosting a regular dance house at Fonó every second Friday. At Berka club dance houses, both those drawn to Moldavian traditions and lovers of string-based folk music can find their place, as dancing goes on all evening in two separate rooms. In the Main Hall, Gyurka Fábián, dance master, and the Berka Együttes create an authentic Moldavian dance house atmosphere, while in the Foyer we welcome visitors with string music throughout the night.

Founded in 2008, the Berka Együttes is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year. The band has worked extensively with the rich and diverse repertoire of Moldavian Csángó melodies and dances. For more than a decade, they have expressed their love and respect for this region through their biweekly dance house series.

“Our band’s lineup has changed and evolved a great deal over the past year. As former and current active members of the Berka community, we strive to preserve our shared professional knowledge and our love of music. Above all else, however, our philosophy is built on nurturing the friendships within the band, involving our families in this community, and passing on our love of folk music to our children.”
