Dr. Martin György "Tinka" Erkel prize-winning Hungarian ethnographer, folk dance researcher and musicologist did field collection work in Transylvania’s Kalotaszeg region for 27 years, from 1956 until his death in 1983. His film documentations of traditional dance and sound recordings of instrumental music, singing, whistling and ethnographic interviews with local informants are unparalleled in value and number. Formed in 2013, Erdőfű Band (Maruzsenszki Andor - violin, Kiss-Balbinat Ádám - vocals, violin, Éri Márton - viola, Éri Katalin - cello, double bass) selected 17 items from hundreds of hours of archival sound recordings to include on this album forming a retrospective of Martin’s Kalotaszeg collection work. Erdőfű strives for the authentic sound of the field recordings. Martin György's step-son Éri Péter (from Muzsikás Ensemble) joined Erdőfű for this record playing viola and double bass. Other guests were Salamon Soma on accordion and flute, and Porteleki Áron on drums.
